Self-service ferry, Rijssen

Long time ago there was a ferry across the Regge river to connect the two regions: Notter and Zuna. Now this ferry has been re-installed a few years back. Not there was a need for it, just for recreational purposes. It's a self-serviced, one (wo)man powered footferry for maximum 6 persons with bicycles.

The river is not so wide, and the ferry goes slow, but yet it is an adventure to go to the other side by turning the wheel. Especially if this is the first time you make the trip, and when you are frightened of black water and cannot stand rocking boats, like Riya.

Luckily the weather is calm and sunny, and the ferry is quite stable in the water if you do not move yourself too much.

Traffic on the river goes first, so we have to let the motorboat pass by.

Although this area is close to the city of Rijssen, you still get the feeling of a remote rural area. And indeed it still is. The bicycle path to and from the ferry leads you through a meadow with grazing cows and a bull.

When we passed the herd, the distance was only a few metres. Obviously the animals had not read the warning sign with instructions to keep the distance minimal 25 metres.
